‘Lockdown’ announced in Sierra Leone

We have heard from our partners in Waterloo that the number of Ebola cases is increasing, and that deaths are occurring daily. Because Waterloo is on the main highway to the capital, the town is particularly vulnerable to spread of the disease from people travelling in all directions.

The Waterloo Partnership SL is staging a major health education event on Wednesday 17 September, to teach people how to protect themselves from infection, and is funding equipment for effective hand hygiene. In addition our partners will be distributing a three week supply of basic food and water to the 300 or more people who are quarantined.

The Sierra Leone Government has ordered an enforced ‘lockdown’ or curfew for the whole population from 19 to 21 September. We can only hope that this drastic measure will do something to slow the spread of the disease.
