The Waterloo Partnership is a Registered Charity No: number 1111926 |
The November 2006 in the fourth
container, the charity sent over a range of resources such as fabric, weighing scales, sewing machines, ironing boards, electric cooker, refrigerators and kitchen utensils.
When we visited in November 2007, it was a joy to see the children busy sewing and weaving. The teachers were very grateful and the whole atmosphere was really positive. Indeed, it
looked like a classroom in England. We had also sent over some mattresses and this allowed sick children to be looked after during the school day. It was
an extremely humbling experience, when we was presented with a gift from the Headteacher, Mrs Aminata
Victoria Lamin. It was a knitted cushion cover, which some of the children had made. This has now been presented to Mrs Sue Dyson, who was the very first person to sign up to the
OneThousand Hearts campaign.
In May 2005 when members of the Waterloo Partnership journeyed to West Africa
they visited the Rural Education Community Home Economics Centre in Hartshorn
Street, Waterloo. This is a resource centre for all the primary schools, which specialises in home management, laundry, textiles, food and health education. Due to the inadequate resources,
progress had been severely hindered. At the time of the visit, the centre had two bundles of yellow and blue wool, two dozen needles and six spools of cotton for 1000 pupils for the whole year!
The teachers asked for resources so that they could provide a better
education for their pupils. The regular financial support from The One
Thousand Hearts campaign has helped transform the Centre as showed in the photographs.
